Sleep off the Stags

The Stag Do is a great way to celebrate your last few days as a single man, but make sure it doesn't make your first day as a married man a day from hell.

I recently heard a story about a groom whose groomsmen and friends threw his Stag Do the night before the wedding. The ceremony was scheduled for 3pm on Saturday afternoon at a beautiful church in Wellington. Plenty of time to shake a hangover, right? Not quite. He woke up at 2pm on Saturday afternoon with no clothes on and no eyebrows...in Palmerston North!

Luckily, the groom had a very forgiving bride, who was willing to push the wedding back a few hours and wait for her repentant groom to make his way back to the aisle.

There's two lessons to be learned here.

1.    The Stag Do is completely out of the groom's hands. He is at the mercy of his groomsmen and friends. Let's be honest too - the guys rarely go easy on the groom. It's safe to say he's going to be dragging his feet the next day, so make sure the Stag Do is at least a week before the wedding at the latest! That way he gets a few days to recover. You'll be sure to have a groom on time...and with eyebrows in tact, if not on their way to growing back!
2.    Make sure the groom chooses groomsmen who are going to act like groomsmen...not muppets! If his friends are going to make him incapacitated and abandon him two hours from the wedding location, they're probably not the most stand-up gentlemen. His groomsmen are meant to look out for him, to take care of him, and most of all, to make sure he gets to the church on time.

A note to you, ladies: If you trust his groomsmen and friends, and you trust him to behave, let them enjoy the Stag Do. If you ring every half hour, it's just going to put a damper on his one and only Stag Do, and it's going to work you up into a frenzy. Remember, he's marrying you!
