A common misconception when it comes to the buffet is that just because it's a more affordable option, doesn't mean you have to make up for it by having a gazillion dishes!
It's a pleasant truth to hear: having fewer options at a buffet is not only cheaper, it can also makes for a better, more cohesive meal.
The key to the buffet is making sure the dishes match your wedding style and theme. For instance, if your style is sophisticated Hollywood glamour, having trays of chili con carne and butter chicken just doesn't quite match. Don't, however, sacrifice your personal preferences and tastes - remember, it's your day so make sure you want to eat what's on the menu as well!
Meet with your caterer and discuss the dishes you'd like to have on the buffet. Regardless of the numbers, we suggest you transfer the money on having tray upon tray of 'okay' courses to having a select few of sophisticated, beautifully prepared dishes. Two meats (i.e. roast lamb and salmon, or beef tenderloin and spice rubbed chicken breast), accompanied by 3-4 sides and freshly baked breads will do the trick. Your caterer should be able to work out what will be best for your guest numbers, style and budget.
