Interview with the Videographer
It's certainly a skill to video a wedding and then create a show that will eloquently capture such an important day. So when looking for a videographer, make sure they know what they're doing...

Employing a videographer to capture your wedding on DVD is becoming more and more popular. Most use superior editing techniques, incorporate soundtracks, employ special effects and produce quality videos using advanced equipment. Like photographers however, each videographer has his or her own style and technique. Here are some key questions to make sure you have answered when interviewing wedding videographers:
1. Have they filmed many weddings? If so, do they have a few you can watch?
2. Have they ever shot a wedding at the location(s) where you are having your wedding ceremony and reception?
3. What is their style? Do they use a lot of special effects? Or do they make more documentary-style videos? Do they incorporate still photographs?
4. What format do they shoot in? 16x9 (High Definition) or 4x3 (Standard Definition)?
5. Ask about how new the equipment is and whether it's of a high standard. Also, ask about a backup plan if there are any technical difficulties.
6. Do they bring lighting, and if so, how strong is it?
7. Explain to them your personality and that of your wedding - will it be classic, natural, glamorous, retro or alternative? Gauge whether they will be able to adapt their style to suit your theme.
8. Do they have a set scene list they stick to, or are they open to your suggestions and vision? How do they "tell the story"?
9. How do they work with photographers? If you have already booked your photographer, find out if they have worked together before, and whether it was a success or a disaster!
10. Can you have the raw footage, in addition to the edited piece?
11. Are they a member of any professional associations? Have they ever won awards for their work?
12. Ensure you are the only wedding they will be shooting that day.
13. Have they ever filmed a wedding at your ceremony venue? What about the reception site? If so, are you able to watch a few clips?
14. Will the videographer you speak with be the actual person who will film on the day? Will they have any assistants? If so, how many? Can you meet the assistant(s) before the day?
15. What is their price list and do they offer any set packages? Will there be any hidden costs along the way or additional charges that may pop up?
