What to wear to a modern wedding has become a bit of a problem. Time and again, invites storm mailboxes with one repeated message: 'Dress Code: Smart Casual'. Marriage however is one of the few practices in life that remains a formal tradition; a wedding therefore is one of the few opportunities we have to go all out with our ensemble.
As all serious fashionistas know, there are a number of unwritten rules about what to wear to a wedding. The most important rule first and foremost is to dress to suit your own shape and style. Incorporate trends that suit you and leave out the ones that don't. Relax and be yourself; think pretty, flirty and fun, and you will be on the right path to looking sensational.
The key is to interpret the current season's trends in keeping with the event and surroundings. So read on, be fearless and frock up!
THE GARDEN WEDDING
Steer
clear of predictable florals and pop some colour. Champagne that is! Or
go for amethyst, ruby, emerald or topaz. Jewel tones are strong this
season, and a garden wedding is the perfect time to explore them. Worn
with flair and confidence, you will set yourself apart from the rose
bushes with a bold colour that works for you.
THE CHURCH WEDDING
Still
one
of the most popular venues, church weddings offer the opportunity
to reflect the setting with a focus on perfect tailoring, sharp
silhouettes and headfirst style statements. Remember, nothing says pure
femininity like a cinched-in waist. Use a buckled belt, bold
brooch or something equally special to help you sparkle in the darkness
of a church interior. To top it off, fascinators and art deco inspired
headpieces that compliment your outfit can be a simple and stunning
addition.
THE BEACH WEDDING
Beach ceremonies ask you
to balance the formality of the event with the informality of the
venue. Take note: you're there to witness a marriage, not to go
swimming. Dresses are back with a vengeance and floaty Grecian numbers
perfectly reflect a casual, beach setting. In fact, dresses of all
styles are hot right now - the more feminine the better. The two key
rules to remember here though are: a dress should not be too short or
too plunging, and white is a very touchy subject - my advice is to
steer clear of the bridal colour all together!
