What fabric will suit me?
I'd like a Medieval-style wedding dress, preferably in a velvet type material, but I have quite a large stomach and hips...and I am not sure velvet is the right material. Can you advise please?

Alison Blain is a renowned couture wedding dress designer, who recently designed the Bride & Groom Bride of the Year gown. It was only fitting that Alison tackled this question!
Dear Kate,
You are correct to have some misgivings about the velvet. It would be much more flattering to use a matte fabric that hangs lightly on the body. For example, a georgette (silk or polyester) would be a great choice for you. The key is to use a satin crepe as an underlay (sewn separately) and then a twill lining.
This way, the fabrics just skim lightly past the body, you will feel confident and you will look FABULOUS!
All the best for your big day,
Alison Blain
