If you'd like to keep in line with traditional etiquette, then it is expected that you include a formal RSVP card, including a self-addressed envelope (complete with postage). If you are asking them to return something to you, it's only fitting that you make it as easy as possible. Plus, traditional RSVP cards are often an awkward size...meaning finding an envelope to match could be a bit tricky for your average Joe.

However, how often do you use snail mail these days? I'm guessing not that often. So if you don't really use it, do you really need to make your guests? Sending out traditional invitations is definitely still a very big part of the wedding process, but these days you can certainly have a bit of fun with the way in which your guests RSVP.

In addition, postage is the most important element to supply if you want the best rate of return. So if you can't afford to supply postage, think of an alternative.

Here are some other ideas that will make it easier for your guests and/or easier on your budget:

1.     Email: Ask your guests to RSVP to your email address. To make it a bit more fun, you could even create a special, new email address specifically for wedding RSVPs - like sarah&todd-get-hitched@...

2.    Phone: Include your phone number and ask your guests to ring you with their RSVP.

3.    Online: Send e-vites to your guests in conjunction with your printed/posted invitations, asking them to RSVP online through www.theBIGstep.co.nz!

4.    Postcard: If you still want a return RSVP card, consider designing a postcard so you don't need the return envelope. Plus, a postcard is cheaper postage than an envelope.

Whatever you use, we suggest you always include a phone number for those who do not have access to the Internet - and trust us - this doesn't always apply to the oldies...young people can be technologically challenged as well!

Sadly though, whatever you do, you will always have to do some chasing. Every guest list includes a few slackers who will never get around to responding.
