Help with the flowers!

I'm having trouble deciding on wedding flowers. We are getting married on the beach in Nelson. My late grandfather grew dahlias, which are not traditional wedding flowers, but I thought may be a nice touch for grandma. My mum loves roses and I like the idea of maybe frangipanis for the beach feel.

Hi Leah,
The time of year you plan to get married will certainly determine what flowers are available. With the blue beach theme, there are a lot of options that would tie in nicely. Roses are around all year and the colour choice is endless -  they are long-lasting, and they can be designed formally or informally. Dahlias and Frangipani are also available in some regions, but they are not easy to get hold of and may not last. Other lovely options are Gerberas, Hydrangea blooms, Singapore Orchids, Phalaenopsis Orchids and wonderful foliages. My best advice would be to contact a florist in the Nelson area to get some ideas and price options - they will have local knowledge of what is around. You should also have a good look through magazines and online for ideas on colour choices and design.

All the best,
Vanessa
