Can You Help with Our Wedding Registry?
We need to decide about our wedding registry. We already have most house wares, and if we do get something new, we are looking for something of higher quality or a bit different. I don't think I could go to one department store and pick enough things for a registry. We don't want to ask for cash. Any suggestions?

Gone are the days of spending hours picking out the perfect set of china and matching long stemmed wine glasses. These days, you can register for just about anything.
Consider what you and your fiance will appreciate, what you will genuinely use and what kinds of gifts will suit your personalities.
You'd be surprised how many types of businesses and shops have registries or will be open to the concept...here are some ideas to think about:
* A Few Pieces: Register for a handful of items at an upmarket furniture shop, if you are looking for more quality pieces.
* Frames: Set up an account at a local framer and request that guests contribute towards the framing of your professional wedding photographs.
* Honeymoon OR Travel: Register with a travel agency to request that your guests either support your honeymoon fund or your big OE.
* Spa: Set up an account or registry with a spa - choose your favourite treatments and add them to your wish list.
* Books, Movies and More: Bookstores like Whitcoulls and Borders have more than just books! You can register for anything from board games and CDs to movies and photo albums.
* Consider your Hobbies: If you're avid outdoors people, register at an outdoors store like Kathmandu, Gordon's, Rebel Sport, Sterling Sports etc. If you love technology and gadgets, set up a wedding account at an electronics store like Harvey Norman, Magnum Mac etc...
* Home Improvement: If you're in the midst of or planning to be knee deep in home renovations, set up a wedding account at home improvement shops like Mitre 10 or Placemakers.
* Wine: Speak to your local wine shop about setting up a wedding account, to which you can add your favourite bottles and vintages.
* Create Your Own: There's no reason why you can't create your own "registry"...with items like "Dinner for 2 at <Your Favourite Restaurant>", "A Night at <A Nice, Local Hotel>", "Two Tickets to the Movies" etc.
* Charity: If you can't decide what you want, you can always give to someone else.
Remember too - you don't have to restrict your wedding registry to just one department store...I registered with two, and I know others who've had 3-4 registries, giving their guests a larger pool from which to select gifts.
