What Should We Wear?
We are both in our 50s and are wondering what to wear? The wedding is late afternoon and the invite says "formal wedding attire".

Formal wedding attire for a late afternoon wedding means:
MEN: A Suit. "Formal wedding attire" for a man should be a nice, dark suit, a shirt and a tie. While a tie is sometimes optional when it comes to New Zealand "formal", it pays to err on the side of caution...you're better off taking OFF your tie than frantically looking around for a spare (which I'm guessing may be a bit tricky). Conversely, remember that "formal" does not mean a tuxedo, which is the correct attire for "Black Tie".
WOMEN: A Dress or Suit. Your dress should be formal (not a cotton sundress) and ideally worn with heals or nice shoes. As the wedding is late afternoon, it does not need to be floor length - cocktail or mid-calf works well. Alternatively, you can wear a skirt suit or formal pantsuit. If you opt for the pantsuit, wear a formal camisole (i.e. silk or chiffon - even a bit of sequence) and evening jewellery with heels.
