Where Can I Seat Just 30 Guests on a Budget?
I am on a very low budget. Do you know of a venue that would allow a wedding party of approximately 30 and is self-catering?

Planning an intimate wedding for 30 people, and finding a venue that will be suitable for this guest list, can be challenging. However, with a little creativity, you'll be surprised at what you can achieve.
There are venues that will cater for smaller numbers, whose costs and menu selections can be very reasonable. Always make sure you do a cost comparison to ensure you are getting the best value for money.
There are a few venues in Auckland that allow self-catering, but make sure you check whether or not they require the use of their bar and beverages. A few venues I stumbled across, which allow BYO food and beverages, include:
* Lounge Bar - Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby
There is no venue hire, although a bond is required. You can provide your own food and entertainment, but there is a minimum bar spend to use this venue.
* Browns Bay Marine Centre
This is a waterfront venue with views out over the Hauraki Gulf. It offers the option of BYO and self catering.
* Komodo, Parnell
This venue has two function rooms, no room hire fee, security included and the option to self-cater. You also have the ability to decorate the room as you wish for your wedding event.
Alternatively, other options to consider may be:
* Home - Plan your wedding reception at either your own home or a family member's residence. If space permits, a hired marquee in the garden works well.
* Sports Clubs - Contact your local club to check whether they hire out their club rooms for functions.
* Community Centres/Halls - Same as above.
* RSA or Cosmopolitan Clubs - Speak to family and friends to see if anyone is a member of such clubs. These venues are open to holding functions but are generally not self-catering.
* Restaurants - You may be able to hire a restaurant for the night for a small wedding party; however, they may not be open to BYO and/or self catering.
Once you work out the budget for your wedding reception, you will then be able to determine how flexible you can be with your venue, catering, beverages and decorations. There is always a balance point; be realistic about what you can afford, and remember - it's your family and friends who will make the celebration special.
